Better for You Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate is probably my favorite warm drink. I mean, what is there not to love about it? Honestly, its probably the thing that caused me to become diabetic... but anyway I digress.

Since cutting out dairy and most refined sugar it was something that I had to come to terms with and look for an alternative that was better for my body. Check out below for my favorite “healthier” hot chocolate!

Dairy Free, Sugar Free Hot Chocolate

2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 can full fat coconut milk unsweetened

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp cocoa powder unsweetened

  • 2 teaspoon honey

Directions

  1. Pour coconut milk into a saucep over medium low heat. Warm to a desirable temperature.

  2. Whisk in cocoa powder and honey.

  3. Allow to warm for another minute stirring to ensure the ingredients are mixed well.

Notes:

  • You can also do this in the microwave, just warm the coconut milk in a mug for about 1 minute. The whisk in the ingredients. Return to microwave for another minute and enjoy!

  • You can use any non dairy milk, but I find coconut milk to be the best since it is a bit thicker and lends to mixing better.

  • If the coconut milk is too thick you can always use light coconut milk or add in some water or other nondairy milk to thin it out.

Looking for a twist...try adding some peppermint extract or vanilla extract. mmmm!
